UT institutions enroll a record 244,276 students this fall

AUSTIN, Texas - Based on preliminary enrollment figures collected by The University of Texas (UT) System Office of Institutional Research and Analysis, UT institutions are enrolling a record-high 244,276 students across all campuses this fall. As a collective, UT institutions grew enrollment by 0.5%, while combined graduate and undergraduate enrollment across the nation has dropped 1.1% this fall, and 3.2% since 2020.

“Everyone knows Texas is growing dramatically, and we need to educate many more students from this point on. UT System’s institutions are committed to meeting the need by recruiting and retaining more Texans,” said UT System Chancellor J.B. Milliken. “We are focused on recruiting across Texas, from all backgrounds, and this includes not only traditional students, but also transfer students, pathway program enrollees, and early college high school graduates. One new tool providing us a great advantage is the Regents’ Promise Plus program, guaranteeing thousands more students with free tuition and mandatory fees.”

UT Austin is the System's largest institution, enrolling an all-time high 52,384 students – surpassing the previous benchmark of 52,261, set in 2002. By percentage, UT Permian Basin, which grew enrollment more than 10%, and UT Dallas, which grew by more than 6%, made the largest enrollment jumps.

These preliminary enrollment figures will not be official until they are certified by the Texas Higher Education Coordination Board.

Launched this fall, Promise Plus is a new $300 million endowment that will help thousands of undergraduate students earn a UT degree at no cost. For more information on the Promise Plus Program and the UT institutions it supports, please visit https://www.utsystem.edu/promise-plus.
