Learning never came easily to me and this fact continuously guides my hand as a teacher in both the design and execution of my courses. Being enthusiastic and passionate about the courses I teach is what best describes me as a teacher. When students have a teacher who is passionate about the subject, they are affected by this and will engage themselves in the learning process. Beyond the rote memorization of facts, I strive to provide my students with active learning activities that aid them in their professional development and replicate the types of situations they will encounter once they obtain professional positions in their discipline. In my classes, I have developed a strategy that appreciates the benefits of integrating lecture with classroom discussion, while attempting to never lose sight of the importance of one-on-one interaction. My role as an educator is to foster a transition from student to scholar by emphasizing individualized training and development in both teaching and research, so they, too, can be teachers and researchers one day.
