My goal in teaching is to inspire our students to benefit society through engineering. My means is to provide students with opportunities to learn from experience. Our students have designed and built projects like rain gardens that let them figure out what does and doesn’t work, that have them collaborating with technical experts and laypersons, that give them mentoring from practicing engineers, and that have them improving their community in a tangible way. Teaching and mentoring of undergraduate students, both inside and outside of the classroom, is the most important and rewarding aspect of my job.
