Teaching, when done well, should inspire, set an example of what can be, and guide the student to success in their future. My educational mission is to provide the student with a perspective of health that transcends the individual to focus on the oral health needs of the community. If I had to summarize my philosophy of the educational message that I give to the student, it would best be reflected in a quotation from Shirley Chisholm: “Service is the rent that we pay for the privilege of living on this earth.”
