My goal as a teacher is to provide my students with a new way to see the world, through an ecological lens which enables them to recognize relationships among the different and diverse elements of their world. Ultimately, I want my students to be empowered with knowledge, skills, and abilities to not only understand the implications of these connections in the context of our real-world challenges, but to be compelled to use these attributes to address these challenges through research, informed action, and leadership. To this end, I challenge my students in my classes through hands-on experiences and culturally relevant pedagogy, and in my lab through participatory action research and service learning.
