Teaching has taught me that I have a lot to learn; it has helped me learn patience and understanding, taught me to love and respect others, to try new things - be innovative, and above all helped me to build life-long relationships with my students.
Dr. Julie Delello is an Associate Professor in the College of Education and Psychology at The University of Texas at Tyler. She received her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction with a specialization in science and technology from Texas A&M University. She also holds a Master’s Degree in Education Administration and Superintendent and Mid-Management certifications. Her Bachelor’s Degree is in Biology.
Julie has served in education for over 20 years with extensive experience in K-12 teaching, administration, and leadership. She has extensive experience in curriculum and technology implementation and faculty training and development. Prior to joining the faculty at UT Tyler, she worked in a variety of administrative roles, including those of Curriculum Director, Technology Director, Coordinator of a Response to Intervention (RTI) program, Science Coordinator, and Federal Programs Director. She also helped to design virtual science museums in conjunction with The Chinese Academy of Sciences, Computer Network Information Center in Beijing, China. Julie was an invited guest speaker at the United States Department of State Eleventh Annual Joint U.S.-China Joint Science and Technology Commission Meeting on the efforts of expanding the scientific and educational ties between the U.S. and China.
Julie has won several grants and teaching awards including a National Science Foundation Grant, a NASA Grant, the Golden Apple Educator Award, the 2017 Regents' Outstanding Teaching Award, the 2015 J. Burns Fellowship of Excellence Award, the 2014 Jack and Dorothy Faye White Fellowship for Teaching, an Academic Innovation Faculty Fellowship, and the 2012 University of Texas at Tyler-Kappa Delta Pi Teacher of the Year award.
Her research focuses on academic innovations, visual media technologies, gerontechnology, and social media platforms for authentic learning.
Julie and her husband Steve have 3 sons, 3 daughters, and two grandchildren. They enjoy traveling, watching sports, and spending time with their family and four rescue animals (2 cats and 2 dogs).
