My students have such varied experiences and backgrounds that I have learned not to take anything for granted. Pushing students to see things from different perspectives has given me greater empathy for those around me.
Professor Katie Gray is Co-Coordinator of the Management Information Systems (MIS) program, and a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Information, Risk and Operations Management at UT Austin’s McCombs School of Business. Over the last nine years, Prof. Gray has taught a variety of undergraduate courses including Introduction to Information Technology Management, Problem Solving and Programming, and Web Application Development. Her classes focus on improving business processes and using technology to drive business change. She also serves in various mentorship roles, including sponsoring the Management Information Systems Association and coaching UT Austin’s team at the annual CoMIS case competition. Before joining the faculty at The University of Texas, Prof. Gray worked as a consultant for Accenture. Her primary responsibilities focused on updating the architecture of a key taxpayer correspondence system for the IRS. Before her tenure at Accenture, Prof. Gray developed systems for cross-portfolio product analysis in IBM’s software group. Prof. Gray has been awarded the Hank and Mary Harkins Award for Effective Teaching in Undergraduate Classes, and she was a member of the 2015 “Texas Ten,” an award given to inspiring professors by the Texas Exes Association. Professor Gray lives with her husband, Andrew, and three children in Georgetown.
