Her recent work has focused on the effects of seeing and learning about gender-segregated occupations on children’s occupational interests, the effects of gender-typed toys on children’s spatial play, and the factors that affect self-efficacy among college women in science and mathematics classes. When she is not teaching and mentoring students, Hayes enjoys spending time with her husband Kevin and their two children, Henry and Bobby. They love to explore parks, zoos, museums, and swimming pools together.
