It is a privilege to teach in the healing arts and I have been blessed to work with and learn from many mentors and colleagues. Through those experiences I have learned what to emulate and, in some cases, what to avoid. Ultimately the goal to pursue excellence was impressed upon me at a young age by my mother, who asked, “son, average is being either “the top of the bottom” or “the bottom of the top”, do you want to be average?” Her challenge to not settle for being average has stuck with me throughout my life.

Dr. Michaell A. Huber is a Professor of Oral Medicine, Department of Comprehensive Dentistry, UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry. He received his DDS from the University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio in 1980 and a Certificate in Oral Medicine from the National Naval Dental Center, Bethesda, Maryland in 1988. He is certified by the American Board of Oral Medicine. Dr. Huber served as Graduate Program Director in Oral Medicine at the National Naval Dental Center, Bethesda, Maryland. In addition, he served as Specialty Leader for Oral Medicine to the Surgeon General of the United States Navy, Washington, DC; and Force Dental Officer, Naval Air Force Atlantic, Norfolk, Virginia.

Upon his retirement from the Navy in 2002, Dr. Huber joined the faculty of the UT Health San Antonio School of Dentistry. He teaches both pre-doctoral and graduate dental students oral medicine at the School of Dentistry. He has actively participated the dental school applicant process, curriculum development, continuing education, and academic performance review. In 2014, he was awarded the UTHSCSA Presidential Teaching Excellence Award. He is a Past President of the American Academy of Oral Medicine and was awarded the Diamond Pin Award for lifetime service in 2018. Dr. Huber has been invited to speak before many local, state, and national professional organizations. He has published over 100 journal articles, book chapters, and online postings.
