Dr. Blake Barker completed a B.A. in Economics and Psychology at Rice University in 2001 and medical degree at Baylor College of Medicine in 2007. He moved to Chicago for Internal Medicine residency at McGaw Medical Center of Northwestern University where he also met his now spouse, Dr. Kim Barker who was completing her residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation. They then moved to Dallas and joined the faculty of UT Southwestern Medical Center in 2011. Dr. Barker found himself drawn to teaching early in his career as a lecturer in various courses and a Faculty Mentor in the Academic Colleges. He served as Co-Director of the Internal Medicine Clerkship (2014-2016) and joined the Office of Student Affairs in 2017 where he currently serves as an Associate Dean. He remains active as a clinician, clinical teacher, and faculty mentor, and also Co-Directs the MS4 Medical Education elective for students interested in developing their own medical education skills. Dr. Barker is the humble recipient of several teaching recognitions including the 2018 Southwestern Academy of Teachers Excellence in Education award, induction into the Gold Humanism Honor Society, and selection as Graduation Marshal by several graduating classes. Drs. Blake & Kim Barker are also proud parents of two children (Benji, 6; and Ruby 4) and enjoy trying new restaurants in their free time between soccer games on the weekends.
