Marcela Hebbard is a senior lecturer at The University of Texas Rio Grande Valley where she teaches composition, linguistics, and teacher preparedness courses. Her research interests include first-year and online writing pedagogies, language and mixed-race identities, raciolinguistics, and writing across the curriculum. She has authored and co-authored several book chapters and articles in academic journals. She holds five master’s degrees, one doctoral degree in Women’s Studies, and is currently earning her second doctoral degree. 

Marcela’s life experiences, including her linguistic and social identities such as gender, ability, religion and spirituality, race, and ethnicity shape her pedagogical practices.

Marcela’s teaching goal is to foster transformational learning in her students, helping them recognize that their unique perspectives, along with their cultural, linguistic backgrounds, and life experiences, are essential to their academic growth and social development.
