Oziel Rios, Ph.D.
Professor of Instruction
Department of Mechanical Engineering
Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science
UT Dallas
Dr. Rios is a professor of instruction in The University of Texas at Dallas's Department of Mechanical Engineering of the Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science. He received his Ph.D. in Mechanical Engineering from The University of Texas at Austin in 2008 where his research focused on design of robotic systems with an emphasis on kinematic and dynamic modeling for analysis and control. At UT Dallas, Dr. Rios has been instrumental in developing and designing the mechanical engineering first-year courses and the Freshman Design Studio, a lab space designed for collaborative, hands-on activities. He has also developed and teaches courses on Computer-Aided Design, Kinematics and Dynamics of Mechanical Systems, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. Dr. Rios’s teaching centers on using technology to enhance students' abilities to solve complex problems, developing students' skills in graphical technical communication, and developing online and hybrid instruction to enrich student learning. Dr. Rios has received an Instructional Improvement Award from UT Dallas Center for Teaching and Learning (2020), the Outstanding Undergraduate Teaching Award from the Jonsson School of Engineering and Computer Science (2023), and the President’s Excellence in Teaching Award in Online and Blended Instruction (2024).
