Compensation

UT System is committed to offering fair and equitable salaries to attract, develop, motivate and retain highly qualified employees. Compensation is determined based on internal salary relationships and external market factors within department and UT System performance goals.

Longevity pay is provided to eligible employees who have completed two years of state service. Only full-time employees (40 hours per week) of the UT System (not contractors) who are scheduled to work for at least 4.5 continuous months (135 calendar days) and who are in a paid status on the first of the month are eligible. Pay is provided beginning on the first day of the month after 24 months as a state employee.

Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program

As a UT System employee, you may qualify for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) Program administered by the U.S. Department of Education. The PSLF Program forgives the remaining balance on Direct Loans after you have made 120 qualifying payments while working full-time for a government employer. Only payments made under certain repayment plans (primarily income-driven repayment plans) qualify for the program.

Please note:

  • You must be employed by a qualifying employer at the time of application for forgiveness and at the time the remaining balance on the loan is forgiven.
  • Amounts forgiven under the PSLF Program are not considered income by the IRS.
  • If you are ineligible for the PSLF Program because some or all payments were not made under a qualifying repayment plan, you may qualify for loan forgiveness under the Temporary Expanded Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program.
  • The entire loan forgiveness process will take at least 10 years.
