The Office of Shared Information Services consolidates redundant IT and business services in the institutions we service with multiple, geographically distributed units. Shared Services is distinct from mere centralization or services in that it encompasses the concept of shared governance and permits greater flexibility and responsiveness. It creates incentives for participation and is overseen not just by UT System personnel, but also by representatives of the participating campuses.
The initiative is organized around three basic types of shared services: information technology (data center consolidation), business systems (software applications) and business processes.
