Impact of ACUE

Great teachers never stop learning, and the UT System Office of Academic Affairs collaborates with and across our institutions to build a culture of great teaching so that every student can succeed.

Assessing the engagement and impact of ACUE credentials for UT System faculty and institutions since the partnership began comes from multiple directions, above all qualitative feedback from faculty participants in ACUE courses, ongoing communication from provosts and other institutional leaders administering and facilitating the ACUE program, ACUE’s own assessments, and pinning ceremonies held by institutions to recognize and celebrate faculty completion of courses and microcredentials.

Through ACUE’s portfolio of courses, the UT System has been able to offer research- and evidence-based student success-focused professional development to faculty across UT academic and health institutions since 2018.

ACUE’s rigorous impact studies done with other partners across the country, demonstrate impressive results for individual faculty, institutions, and—most importantly—students.

Faculty Engagement and Satisfaction

  • Faculty value many things about participating in ACUE, and the word UT System faculty use again and again is that ACUE courses have transformed their teaching lives.
  • Other key takeaways include the sense of community they feel a part of through their cohorts, guidance in implementing new pedagogical practices, the opportunity reflect on their teaching practice and the ways in which their students learn, the appreciation to get to know other faculty across departments and colleges, and the increased confidence they feel as they complete modules.
  • ACUE regularly surveys participating faculty to ascertain their engagement and shares the impact results with the UT System. The results for UT System participants are impressive: 96% of UT System faculty would recommend ACUE to a colleague; 98% refined their teaching practice; and 98% find their ACUE experience engaging and relevant to their work.
  • Perhaps more impressive are the following findings regarding faculty perceptions of their students: After completing the ACUE Course, UT System faculty report increased agreement that instructors can influence how students perceive their intelligence (from 76% to 97 %) and that all students can be successful in their course (from 81% to 95%).

The end of full ACUE courses is celebrated with Pinning Ceremonies held by UT institutions, both virtually and in-person. These powerful ceremonies celebrate the accomplishments and community of faculty who complete ACUE credentials, attended by not only the faculty participants but also provosts, deans, department chairs, and other senior leaders.
