Effective September 1, 2023, Stephen F. Austin State University employees, retirees, and dependents will automatically have the same type of insurance coverage at the same coverage level through The University of Texas System as what they have through ERS on July 1, 2023, with the option to make changes if you wish to.

The University of Texas System Office of Employee Benefits (OEB) would like to welcome employees and retirees from Stephen F. Austin State University to the UT System. OEB’s role in your employee and retiree experience is to provide you with a high-quality, cost-effective benefit program for you and your family members.

We will work closely with your SFA benefits and human resources offices to ensure your transition to the UT Benefits program, including the medical plans and optional benefits, are available and accessible to you beginning September 1, 2023.

BASIC COVERAGE

Medical insurance with prescription drug coverage through UT SELECT Medical (for employees, non-Medicare eligible retirees, and non-Medicare eligible dependents of retirees) OR the UT CARE Medicare PPO (for Medicare-eligible retirees and Medicare-eligible dependents of retirees).

INCLUDED IN BASIC COVERAGE

Enrollment in medical coverage includes, at no additional cost, $50,000 Basic Life and $50,000 Basic Accidental Death & Dismemberment for Employees and $10,000 in Basic Life for Retirees. 

Value-added services are also included to help you maximize your benefits.

OPTIONAL COVERAGE

Dental, Vision, Life, Accidental Death & Dismemberment, and Disability insurance. Plus, UT FLEX plans for Employees.

How to Enroll?

Automatic Enrollment

Your initial enrollment into UT Benefits will be automatically done on your behalf to match your existing SFA insurance coverages to the same type of plan(s) within the UT Benefits program at the same coverage level(s).

For example, if you and your dependent(s) are in the SFA Medical plan, then you and your dependents will be automatically enrolled into either the UT SELECT Medical plan (for employees, non-Medicare eligible retirees, and non-Medicare eligible dependents of retirees) or the UT CARE Medicare PPO (for Medicare-eligible retirees and Medicare-eligible dependents of retirees).

As another example, if you’re enrolled in Short Term and/or Long Term Disability, you will be automatically enrolled in the UT Disability plan(s), as applicable.

Benefits Coverage for SFA Employees & Retirees

Making or Changing Your Elections

Between August 21 and September 30, 2023, you can make changes to your 2023-2024 insurance elections. To elect or make other insurance election changes, please use the Manage your UT Benefits platform and make your insurance elections. Your access to the platform will be available on August 21, 2023. Specific instructions will be sent to you before then about how to access the platform. 

Be sure to “save” your elections when you’re done, and review the election confirmation details for accuracy.

Virtual Town Hall

UT is hosting virtual town halls for you in late July and early August. This is your chance to learn more about the medical plans, hear about the benefits mapping strategy and review important dates. Look for an email with links to the town hall sessions.

For Medicare Eligible Retirees & Medicare Eligible Dependents of Retirees:

In-person Enrollment Fairs

SFA, UT and the various UT benefit partners will be onsite at the SFA Recreational Sports Center in late August. There will be presentations, an opportunity to visit and ask questions in person, and assistance with any enrollment you may wish to complete.

Thursday, August 24 from 9:00 am-noon CST
