Don Jansen

Associate General Counsel - Legal Expert

Donald O. Jansen serves as Associate General Counsel - Legal Expert in the Business Law Section of the Office of General Counsel. Mr. Jansen handles charitable giving and employee benefit plan issues as well as any tax related questions. He is a nationally recognized speaker on life insurance planning, charitable giving and nonqualified deferred compensation.

He is a retired senior partner of Fulbright & Jaworski, LLP (now Norton Rose Fulbright). Mr. Jansen is a former Fellow of the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and a Fellow of the American College of Tax Counsel. He is past chairman of the Committee of Significant Current Literature and a past Vice-Chair of the Insurance Committee, Probate and Trust Division, Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section of the American Bar Association. He is past Probate Editor of the newsletter of the Real Estate, Probate and Trust Law Section of the State Bar of Texas. Mr. Jansen also served on the National Council of the Federal Bar Association and as president of its Houston Chapter. He is a member of the Advisory Committee, Heckerling Institute on Estate Planning, University of Miami School of Law.

Mr. Jansen received a B.B.A. (magna cum laude) and J.D. (cum laude) from Loyola University, New Orleans and a LL.M. from Georgetown University. He has been elected to the National Association of Estate Planners & Councils Estate Planning Hall of Fame®, as an Accredited Estate Planner® (Distinguished). Mr. Jansen is a specialist in estate planning and probate law certified by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization. He has been designated by his peers as a Texas Super Lawyer in estate planning 2003-2005. Mr. Jansen has been designated as an Outstanding Eagle Scout by the National Eagle Scout Association.
